MUSINGS – PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
Art Morgan started this company as ‘Free State Plastics’ in a back alley garage in 1947. In 1951 it was incorporated as ‘Artmor Plastics Corporation.
I was going through some of the old newsletters we used to send out and was again made aware of the uniqueness, individuality, creativeness, forward thinking of Mr. Morgan.
His first love was building and he created a roofing system and a small model home reflecting how it could be used. His home here in LaVale , built mostly by Mr. Morgan, used different plastics modular components both inside and out to test how they would wear and what items he could make and sell.
Time and space made it impossible for him to produce and sell his roofing system so “I decided to concentrate on small items that I could make to help keep the wolf from the door and turn a profit”. Having worked for Celanese Corporation when he graduated from high school he had knowledge of the textile industry.
The first rewind cap was created by Mr. Morgan for Celanese here in Cumberland. It is our standard #10A-A cap and we sold thousands and thousands of them to Celanese before they closed the plant.
Mr. Morgan had the ability to create a product and then build a machine to help produce the item. The 10A-A was the start of our line of rewind and creel caps. Many have been copied, but we were the first!
Today, the employees of Artmor are working hard to continue the legacy of Art Morgan by offering our customers a variety of quality products to help them create a better product; by being open to any new projects they are pursuing and working with them to create items to fit their need.
I read an article recently that industries are turning to “Mass Customization”, creating items that can be used in many different configurations to fit individual customer needs. Artmor has been in the business of “Customization” since its’ inception. Art and Artmor were way ahead of their time.
